Empire

Empire is a project inspired by the Japanese flag, in recreation of its purer nature with an uncontrollable factor determining the final outcome of the piece. Pigment was funneled into balloons then filled with water. After being shook they were placed in the freezer for approximately 2 days. The separation of the water and pigment occurred inside the freezer with no control factor over them. They were then taken out of the freezer, the balloon was removed and carefully placed on the beige pillow cover to create a flag like representation. In relation to the continuous Boudin Rouge project the artist poetically translated a well known country flag, bringing to attention colour, texture and most importantly, context.
