‘Welcome to my home’ is a performance in collaboration with artist Ioi Choi at Paris College of Art for the total duration of 7 hours.
The artists collaborated in creating the concept of home within a communal gallery space by making and serving dumplings. Everything was made from scratch with original recipes.
It is a true wonder watching an empty and rather dull area that was used for individual lunch times, changing into an integrated, active and energy filled place of communication and love.
The whole community came together in celebration of this moment and the whole school was filled with laughter.
Food has always been a gesture of compassion, a gesture of love and a gesture of welcoming somebody in to your culture. Food has always been a part of our lives, as a way of socialising, studying and interacting with others.
To be able to offer up such a significant part of intimacy with a large group of people can have several different effects. Some may feel uncomfortable with the bustling energy, a frantic search and make for these foods. Some may enjoy the aura, the positivity of sharing and giving of both parties. Some may relish the moment and enjoy the change in atmosphere.
‘Welcome to my home’ was a successful piece in achieving all mentioned above. All qualities that are possessed by a home and kitchen, to make everyone welcome to our home.
It is true bliss and joy to watch people’s faces fill with joy because of a single act of kindness.
